Dr. Tony Campolo will speak to the Harrisonburg District Mennonite Churches Wednesday, December 3 at 7:00pm at the Harrisonburg Mennonite Church. Dr. Campolo has been asked to speak on the topic of the role of comfortable suburban Christians in a time when radical Christian vision is needed for needy hurting people and communities in our country and the world. Please be in prayer for Roy Hange as he participates in the consultation on the Church and Islam at Eastern Mennonite University from October 23-26. Roy will be leading a seminar and co-leading the communion at the closing service on Sunday. The book A Mother Held Hostage has been added to our library. Author Barbara Borntrager writes about life with her son Jon and his battle with Tourette's Syndrome. A story about our relationships with family, friends, the church and especially God, during difficult circumstances. You are invited to attend the Bible Translation Banquet presented by Wycliffe Associates on Sunday, November 16, 1:30 pm at the Doubletree Hotel. Wycliffe Associates work as a support ministry to the Wycliffe Bible Translators. Come and hear about the challenges of Bible translation and how God can indeed use anyone to help meet those challenges in many occupations. There is no charge for the meal, a love offering will be taken to help with expenses and anything left over will go towards the ministry. Prayers and PraisesVMBM: Chaiya Hadtasunsern teaches the Hmong language to ten Hmong children in Hickory, N.C., each Saturday. In addition to learning the language, Chaiya is teaching the children to pray, sing Christian songs, and read the Scripture. Once a month Chaiya meets with their parents for a fellowship meal and Bible study at Hickory Mennonite Church. Mennonite Mission Network: Pray for the 15 new students of Instituto Bíblico Anabautista in the Miami, Fla., center and for Pastor Byron Pellecer who teaches. May these students become effective instruments in church ministry.
Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Foodbank and the Salvation Army. Please pray for the board and staff at Love INC as the ministry adjusts to changes in staff: Kim Washington, who took over as the Clearinghouse Coordinator, the search committee as the interview candidates to fill the Executive Director's position.
